Coatings update: general reviews

Abstract

Each year many review articles appear which summarise more or less complete data in a given area. Some of these make forecasts for a given period. Thus, Mann [Modern Paint & Coatings, 67, January (1977) p. 23] in a review entitled “The Circuitous Road to Recovery” has described some of the important happenings in the coatings industry in 1976 and has made some optimistic projections for 1977. Indeed, he points out the possibility that in 1977 the coatings industry may have its first billion‐gallon‐year. At the time that this is being written, it does not appear that his projection will be achieved, although the gathering of statistics is fraught with problems and it could be that the early data are not entirely indicative.
