Abstract

The Pigments Divn. of Degussa, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, has extended its palette of colour blacks for the pigmentation of lacquers to include a newly‐developed, high‐quality gas black, available under the designation “Special Black 6” and, it is claimed, can be used to produce surface coatings with a great depth of shade (deep blackness) that are characterised by a blue tinge, exceptional glossiness and good resistance to weathering. As the new product's flocculation stability is comparable with other carbon blacks, it guarantees uniform quality and problem‐free application of the lacquers that are pigmented with it. The new Degussa product is particularly economical in use because of its favourable rheological behaviour and good dispersion properties. It is suitable for use in concentrated carbon black preparations with great depth of shade and blue tinge. From the viewpoint of its general properties, Special Black 6 lies between the Colour Black FW 2 and the Special Black 5 of the Degussa palette.
