Coatings update: the immediate outlook

Abstract

All was not bright in the coatings industry in 1981. Although the final figures are not in at the time this report is being written, it is likely that gallonage will be down in 1981 just as it was in 1980. Of course dollar figures were up, a consequence, as everyone knows, of inflation. But the true test of performance of an industry is whether the actual units of the product increase.
