Abstract

Last year was the first time in 35 years that the Oil and Colour Chemists' Association did not hold their annual exhibition of raw materials and plant for the coatings, printing inks and allied industries. This departure from a tradition that began in 1948 at the former Borough Polytechnic (now the more upmarket Polytechnic of the South Bank), was justified in view of the fact that the Resins and Pigments Exhibition, organised by our contemporary, Polymers, Paint & Colour Journal, returned to London after five previous extremely successful exhibitions in various Continental venues. The econo‐mic facts of life were that potential exhibitors—and visitors—just could not accommodate two exhibitions serving a static, if not declining, market. Furthermore, regardless of whether there will be a rival exhibition or not, OCCA have made a wise move to hold future exhibitions biennially.
