Abstract

The audio CD industry and its consumer market continue to endorse the compact disc as a virtually indestructible medium for audio distribution. Compared to audio tape and vinyl LPs, the CD seems to approach perfection. CD‐ROM users, however, need to be more aware of the less‐than‐perfect nature of compact disc technology. Most crucially, both manufacturing and user‐created errors are unacceptable in a CD‐ROM when it's used as an information distribution medium. These errors are more tolerable with audio CDs, as they're often undetectable to the human ear.
