During college vacations, young Bob Dickinson attended National Hunt meetings, betting with money given to him by his uncle. Today, the managing director of SKF, the ball‐bearing group, still enjoys the ‘thrill and excitement’ of a steeplechase—and pitting his accountant's mind against the bookmaker. Paul Whiting reports
