Abstract

VIRTUALLY every industrialist would impugn that politically engendered attitude of mind which condemns profit as a dirty word rather than welcomes it as a measure of a job well done and a need well met. Yet there are many managers with responsibility for central services who resent being judged by that same meter — profitability as the key indicator of effective performance.
