Abstract

The International Management Centre from Buckingham has achieved its radical aim, to work with managers at or near their own workplace and to expand the limitations of the traditional MBA to make it equally relevant to overseas students, through an action learning based programme integrating the needs of the sponsoring organisation and the participant. The importance of learning preferences and styles are emphasised, and the logistical problems of international activities have been eased through the make‐up of IMCB tutorial faculty and the establishment of an international network involving local bodies or institutes. Activities range from open, company or profession‐based MBAs through to seminars/workshops, utilising resources produced by IMCB's official publisher, MCB University Press. Organisations, both local and multinational, are responding eagerly to this new approach, with sponsoring organisations including such diverse groups as an insurance company and a quarrying organisation, to Glaxo, Dunlop and Siemens.
