Announcement and call for abstracts

IASS-IACM 2008, 6th ICCSSS, “Spanning Nano to Mega”6th International Conference on Computation of Shell and Spatial StructuresMay 28-31, 2008Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA

Objectives and themes

To address a broad interpretation of “Shell and Spatial Structures” the 6th Conference will include presentations regarding computation for any long-span, lightweight, fabric, or thin-walled structures:

  • at a variety of scales – spanning nano to mega;

  • in a diversity of application fields; and

  • in both technology and nature.

In addition, the themes of the conference sessions will include most of those addressed at the 5th Conference but with new emphasis on the related areas of:

  • computational morphogenesis;

  • computational materials;

  • innovative materials;

  • biological structures; and

  • nano- and micro-structures.

Topics carried forward from the 5th Conference (held in 2005 in Salzburg) include:

  • structural modeling (in particular of rods, plates, shells and membranes);

  • finite element technology;

  • dynamics;

  • buckling;

  • contact;

  • fracture;

  • material modeling;

  • fabrics, laminates and composites;

  • reinforced-concrete and metal structures;

  • spatial structures;

  • interaction problems;

  • optimization;

  • form-finding;

  • solution methods;

  • mathematical foundations; and

  • advanced industrial applications.

Further information

For further information see the conference web site at: http://iassiacm2008.us

Call for abstracts

Papers for presentation at the Conference will be selected on the basis of one-page abstracts. Accepted contributors will be asked to submit also an extended abstract of up to four pages for the proceedings to be published on CD. No full papers will be requested, although authors are encouraged to submit full papers to international journals.

By November 15, 2007, please submit one-page abstracts in the form of either .pdf or (MS Word).doc files as e-mail attachments to: info@iassiacm2008.us or by mailing hard copies to the contact address below.

Language

English is the official language for both oral and written presentations.

Dates

Abstracts due (one-page): November 15, 2007.

Notification of acceptance: January 15, 2008.

Extended (four-page) abstracts due: March 15, 2008.

End early registration at reduced fees: March 15, 2008.

Registration fees

The Conference fees are still to be determined. It is the intent of the organizers to make the Conference self-supporting through the Conference fees. Reduced fees will be available for:

  • early registration (prior to March 15, 2008);

  • members of the IASS and/or the IACM;

  • students; and

  • accompanying persons.

  • See http://iassiacm2008.us for updated information.
