BFPSA on the Web

Keywords: Fire safety, Internet

A new Web site is now online from the British Fire Protection Systems Association (BFPSA) which provides a wide range of useful information for anybody involved in the manufacture, installation or specification of fire alarm and fixed extinguishing systems.

The Web site (http:llwww.bfpsa.org.uk) is easy to navigate with eight different areas and hyperlinks to other useful sites (see Plate 1).

One of its most useful features for anybody looking to source fire protection products and services is a search database which allows selection by product category, from air sampling smoke detectors through to standby power systems, providing details of companies in the selected fields.

Another area lists the standards applicable to fire safety, covering fixed fire extinguishing systems, fire safety engineering and portable fire extinguishers, with a hyperlink to the British Standards Institute (BSI) Web site for further clarification.

An industry news section offers an insight into current topics including the construction products directive, CE Marking and the potential effects of the Year 2000 on fire detection and alarm systems, while contact details are also given for UK and overseas trade associations and influencing organisations involved in raising awareness of safety issues.

Visitors to the site are able to order BFPSA products online, including publications, videos and CD-ROMs.

There are also password protected pages for BFPSA member companies.

Commenting on the launch of the site, Terry Martiny, BFPSA marketing manager, said - "We have tried to design the site to be an invaluable tool for anybody interested in fire protection. It already contains a lot of useful information and reference points and we plan to develop the site to reflect changes in the industry, but if the answers aren't there, it is a simple process for a visitor to contact us from within the site."
