"E-FM" Topic for FM Graduate of the Year Award 2000

Keywords: Awards, BIFM, Facilities management, Electronic commerce

"e-FM" is the topic for the academic essay by entrants to the 2000 FM Graduate of the Year Award, sponsored by leading office design group, Claremont Business Environments, with the backing of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).

"The rapid growth of the e-commerce market and its impact on facilities management is a key issue now", says Ann Inman, associate director, marketing for Claremont, "as the Internet and electronic communications influence more and more aspects of the business world."

The award aims to recognise the most outstanding FM student in the UK, with the six universities currently running BIFM-accredited courses nominating entrants from amongst the postgraduate and masters students graduating in the academic year (1999/2000). Entrants will then be asked to submit an academic essay on the topic of "e-FM". The winner will be presented with the award at a special function later this year, with the prize being an all-expenses paid trip to Steelcase Inc., USA.

Says Valerie Everett, BIFM professional development director, "We are delighted that Claremont recognises the importance of higher education in the development of FM as a business discipline. Students at this level need to be highly committed, particularly as they combine their studies with full-time jobs."

The FM Graduate of the Year Award was instigated by Claremont and the BIFM in 1999, when it was won by Colin Blair, director of estates and facilities management at the University of Huddersfield. He was nominated for the award by Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he gained an MSc in facilities management.

The six UK universities currently running BIFM-accredited courses are:

  1. 1.

The College of Estate Management, Reading.
