is the recipient of the journal's Outstanding Paper Award for Excellence for her paper

"Deviation as a key to innovation: understanding a culture of the future"

which appeared in foresight, Vol. 6 No. 3, 2004

Trudy Barber is a professional futurist and is the executive director of Awen Consulting. She has researched the socio-cultural future of new technologies that project new possibilities for global industry, affect research and development of information and communication technologies, and contributed to sex and relationship therapies. Her research has explored the possible consequences of new information and communication technologies on the everyday consumer. She was the originator of the first sexually themed Virtual Reality Fine Art Installation in conjunction with Virtual S in 1992 as part of her BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. She has also completed her PhD in cultural Studies at the University of Kent concentrating on sexual attitudes and activities in relation to information and communication technologies. Her book fetishism@cyberspace: sex and innovation on the internet is in development with Berg Publishing. Her writings have appeared in publications such as foresight journal and The Penguin Atlas of Human Sexual Behaviour and Net Sexx: Readings on Sex, Pornography and the Internet. She has acted as a consultant for and appeared in numerous television and radio broadcasts and also various publications such as .Net Magazine, Loaded, The Guardian and The Sunday Express.
