What’s on the web

www.monster.co.uk

Monster UK is the local content and language website for Monster, the leading global online careers and recruitment resource. Monster Global Network consists of 26 local language and content sites in 24 countries worldwide – committed to connecting the most progressive companies with high-calibre, career-minded individuals.

For jobseekers thinking about a new job, new career, a new city or a new direction, Monster.co.uk may help explore the possibilities and find the right opportunities.

For employers looking to recruit the most qualified candidates, Monster.co.uk offers claims to offer “innovative technology and superior services” to streamline the hiring process.

The web site is fast and well thought out – the jobs, in many areas, somewhat sketchy to say the least.

Measuring up

www.alphameasure.com

AlphaMeasure provides organisations of all sizes with a powerful web-based method for measuring employee satisfaction, determining employee engagement, and increasing employee retention. This much is true.

The AlphaMeasure Employee Survey System is fully customisable and allows employers to target the organisational topics and challenges facing their staff. Designed by HR professionals from the ground up, the AlphaMeasure Employee Survey System provides, they claim, an affordable, feature rich solution for deploying fully-customised employee surveys, employee satisfaction surveys, staff opinion surveys, and employee engagement surveys.

They go on to claim, on this well designed site, that they “offer your organisation the ability to facilitate honest communication between management and employees in a safe, secure environment that protects the anonymity of staff members”.

One thing that was nice about the site is a link to an article in Forbes magazine. “Read about us” says the AlphaMeasure site as a taster. When you read the article is more than a little critical of employee surveys and the cost of such packages. It might not be there for long!

Gaining insight

www.advisorteam.org

It is worth visiting this site to read about another on-line survey/test system. The Keirsey Temperament Sorter is “a powerful 70-question personality instrument that helps individuals discover their personality type”. It is based on Dr David Keirsey’s Temperament theory and claims to have helped over 30 million people worldwide to gain insight into themselves and the people around them. “This insight is useful when selecting a career or choosing a work environment,” it suggests somewhat diffidently.

According to Keirsey’s Temperament Theory, people can be sorted into four Temperament groups. These groups are referred to as Artisans, Guardians, Rationals and Idealists. Within each of the four Temperaments, there are four Temperament Variants, which Keirsey calls, “Character types.”

Some of the most popular uses of the Keirsey test include team building, guidance counselling, conflict resolution, relationship counselling, career exploration and self understanding. Interesting and worth a visit.

Too unlimited?

www.you-unltd.co.uk

The company, You Unlimited, offers know-how, tools and techniques to organisations to “get exceptional results on people performance with a range of development programmes and coaching”. What is here interesting is the range of comments and scoring given by participants to each programme on offer. The company offers a free trial but warns you that most organisations who have taken up this offer go on using the company again and again! They continue with the comment that you should check with the person who pays the bill before continuing! A fun, bright, site that might have some interesting tools for the HR manager.

And finally

A big corporation recently hired several cannibals. “You get all the usual benefits and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat, but please don’t eat any of the other employees,” said the HR chief during the welcoming briefing.

The cannibals promised they would not. Four months later their boss remarked, “One of our secretaries has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?” The cannibals all shook their heads no.

After the boss had left, the leader of the cannibals said to the others, “Which one of you ate the secretary?” A hand rose hesitantly, to which the leader of the cannibals continued, “Idiot. I thought we’d all agreed to only eat managers – so no one noticed anything,”
