Purpose – looks at how Skoda has been transformed from being a producer of low quality, low value cars to being a producer of high quality cars through its partnership with Volkswagen. Design/methodology/approach – reviews the origins of the Skoda/Volkswagen partnership, describes how this partnership has worked and how it has transformed Skoda, and discusses how the company has successfully expanded in India and China. Findings – sees Skoda’s success as resting on the drive to increase the quality of Skoda cars, the culture of trust and commitment which fostered employee and organizational learning, and its links with government and community stakeholders.
