The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) has launched a new electronic magazine, Learning Circuits (http://www.learningcircuits.org). An outgrowth of the Society's ten-year-old paper magazine Technical Training, it includes feature articles and columns that examine new technologies and how they are being applied for workplace learning. The magazine is sponsored by Lotus Learning Space.

"Predictions about technology and learning, along with ASTD's trend research, suggest large increases to come in the use of technology for workplace learning", said Greta Kotler, ASTD's Interim President. "Over time, Learning Circuits will create a body of knowledge about how to use technology efficiently and effectively for learning."

Learning Circuits includes the following content areas:

  • news of technology developments affecting training, learning, knowledge, management, education, and related areas;

  • how-to articles on using technology to design, deliver and manage learning;

  • case studies of technology applications for learning;

  • columns from established learning and technology experts that explore applications and trends;

  • online tools to help with specific tasks;

  • product descriptions, reviews and demonstrations via the ASTD Virtual Tradeshow;

  • links to other Web-based information sources;

  • interactive content provided by readers through the ASTD forums and committees;

  • career guidance from the ASTD Career Center.

"The Learning Circuits Newsbytes section, updated bi-weekly, provides current news and analysis of the learning technologies industry. The interactive portion allows viewers to join discussions on learning technologies, post new content and make it truly interactive", said Pat Galagan, editor-in-chief of ASTD's magazines.
