US army opts for e-learning

US army opts for e-learning

The US army is using electronic learning to deliver training to its soldiers and civilian personnel anywhere in the world. The army hopes the new system will help to train its geographically-dispersed workforce faster, more consistently and more effectively.

The learning infrastructure of e-learning company, SmartForce, has been chosen to train personnel quickly on information-technology systems and processes, to further the interpersonal skills of individuals and to increase business, management and leadership skills throughout the US army.

"Working with an e-learning provider that can deliver training anywhere in the world and adapt to our continually changing systems and processes is of paramount importance to the army", said Bob Schwenk, deputy director of the US army chief-technology office.

Other SmartForce customers in the US Government include:

  • the air force;

  • the defence information-systems agency;

  • the defence-contract management agency;

  • the social-security administration;

  • the Veterans' Association;

  • the Internal Revenue Service;

  • the Departments of State, Transportation and Energy; and

  • the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
