Learning-management system reaches Milestone

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 44, Issue 5

A provider of mountings and displays for audio-visual technologies has selected a new learning-management system (LMS) to deliver and manage organizational training programs for its employees and partners across the globe.

Milestone selected Upside’s LMS because it offers a simple user interface and the ability to incorporate a knowledge base. Another benefit is the ability to manage multiple portals from the same set-up, which enables the company to use the new tool across its multiple divisions.

Milestone can now create and manage separate portals for each of its brands. Additionally, the firm’s other training requirements – like conducting and managing classroom training sessions, e-learning delivery and management, course-catalog management, credit management, exhaustive reporting and analytics – can also be managed effectively using LMS.

Milestone will begin using the LMS for its chief brand, to manage the training for its workforce and partner network. The initial launch will reach more than 2,000 learners. For the chief brand in particular, the social-learning module has been designed to allow users, not part of the LMS system, to directly gain access to documents and Wikipedia articles as part of the Upside LMS knowledge center.

Douglas Bauernschmidt, Milestone’s instructional-design manager, said: “We chose the Upside LMS because of its versatility in presenting our content, ability to provide custom reporting and for the use of multiple portals. We also wanted the flexibility to add social-networking components in the form of forums and knowledge bases.”
