India gets richer

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) project that, by 2010, India’s GDP will double to USD 1,100 billion from its current level of USD 550 billion. The average Indian will be growing richer with per capita income ballooning to USD 1,200 per annum from the present level of USD 600.

This growth will come from growth in key industries and areas – the productivity and efficiency of Indian ports, for example, is expected to grow sharply – and modernisation of agriculture alongside new irrigation schemes.

In addition, the GDP investment ratio which currently is estimated at 30 per cent is anticipated to increase by 5 per cent, reaching 35 per cent by 2010. All this will be matched by a substantial improvement in infrastructural facilities.
