Running to keep in the game

Manufacturing labour productivity increased in 14 of the 15 economies covered by the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2005. The only exception was Denmark, which experienced no change in productivity.

The US increase of 5.1 percent continued a more than decade-long trend of relatively high productivity growth in manufacturing. Since 1995, only the Republic of Korea and Sweden have had greater growth.

Manufacturing unit labour costs, expressed in national currency units, declined in nine of the economies and increased in six. The change for the USA was near the middle of the range, at minus 0.4 percent.

Doing better means both doing better than before and doing better than your competitors!
