Jamaican Centre gets busy

Article Type: News From: International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, Volume 57, Issue 7

The Government has allocated $30 million to equip the Jamaica Productivity Centre to carry out its mandate during the current fiscal year, Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles has said.

Mr Charles said that the allocation was a 200 per cent increase over last year’s provision and comes against the increased demand for skilled workers globally, which “Jamaica must prepare itself to meet”, as well as intensified global competition, which will see preferential treatment for countries becoming a thing of the past.

He said the critical areas of focus for the Centre will be public education and awareness, productivity measurement, benchmarking and best practice, productivity advisory service, and productivity training.
