The GLOBE Sustainable Development Programme

Article Type: News from the net From: International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Volume 11, Issue 1

The GLOBE Programme is an international environmental education project, encouraging children in schools to explore and measure their local environment, and make their findings available to everyone using the internet.

The programme covers several distinct areas, at both primary and secondary levels (KS 2-4). Activities can be chosen depending on one’s teaching needs. GLOBE’s activities cover atmosphere and climate, water and hydrology, land cover and biology, soils and phenology. There are also protocols for taking GPS measurements, a toolkit of thing you can make and sustainable development activities (a GLOBE-UK initiative). All the activities are curriculum-linked, and are free to download.
