One of England's most rural counties, Northumberland, is making plans to install a Unity network. The countylibrary has won Capital Challenge funding to set up the network across its ten larger libraries over the next three years, as part of the "Informing Northumberland" project.

The first two sites will be the libraries at Morpeth, the county town, and Cramlington, where cabling has already begun. In the meantime, the larger libraries in Northumberland will install the Unity database on standalone PCs as a staff-only tool, complementing the existing Unity site at the Morpeth County Library HQ.

"Local staff will be better placed to tell readers about titles available in the county", reports principal libraries officer, Mike Dimelow. "They will gain more awareness of the county library's stock".
