BUILDER project re-launched

Keywords: Library services, Electronic books, Resource management, Internet, Interfaces, United Kingdom

The BUILDER (Birmingham University integrated library development and electronic resource) project has been re-launched. The project is supported as part of the electronic libraries programme (eLib) which is funded by the joint information systems committee (JISC) of the higher education funding councils. Its aim is to develop a working model of the hybrid library within both a teaching and research context. It will be using a Web-based interface in a way that will be universally applicable. A full search facility for the web site will be available in the near future.

The BUILDER web site has been re-structured into three key strands. The first is the Hybrid Library which will provide end users with resources in a variety of formats from local and remote sources in an integrated way. This is not operational at the moment but is scheduled to open soon.

The second strand on the web site is for a number of specific products developed by BUILDER. These include a pilot electronic short loan service, exam papers on-line and two reports about the cultural impact of the Hybrid Library. Other products will be added to this list as they are released.

The amount of information in the About the BUILDER project, the third strand, has been increased. There are new sections here including product documentation, official documents, mission, publications and presentations, stakeholders, and contacts and links.
