The verdict on 2001 from Outsell

The verdict on 2001 from Outsell

This USA-based organisation surveys over 3,000 information vendors and the "information consumption and buying patterns of over 20,000 knowledge workers categorized into ten user groups in 20 industries". They assess their own predictions for 2001 against how they see the position at the end of the year. In brief: they were correct to predict that the Fortune 500 companies would be the dot.coms of tomorrow; that growth is slowing for information content (which will come as a surprise to many of us!); and integration of IT and information content will continue. They were less confident about some of their other predictions: that e-Books will get over the hyp – they are still waiting; and that 2001 will not be the year of the end user. They comment that "Users lack a critical attitude towards the content they find and use and they don't see the value of information".

They also publish interesting material in their Briefing which is available on the Web at www.Outsellinc.com
