Premier, Inc., a leading health care alliance representing nearly 1,600 not-for-profit hospitals and health systems in the USA, has expanded the agreement with McKesson Automation, Inc. for their ROBOT-Rx(TM) product. ROBOT-Rx is a centralized, robotic drug distribution system that automates the storing, dispensing, returning, restocking and crediting of unit-dose, bar coded inpatient medications. The product is currently installed in more than 300 facilities throughout the country.

Under the terms of the agreement, McKesson Automation is the exclusive vendor for automated robotic pharmacy dispensing technology, ROBOT-Rx. In addition to the ROBOT-Rx product, McKesson Automation will offer Premier preferred pricing for other products, including AcuDose-Rx2, a family of decentralized unit-based cabinets used inpatient care areas to store, dispense and track bar coded narcotic, floorstock and PRN medications; MedDirect2, an automated system that utilizes imaging technology for communicating medication orders from patient care areas to the centralized hospital pharmacy; and Admin-Rx2, a hand-held, wireless medication scanner used at the point-of-care to verify the "5 Rights" of medication administration and capture critical data.

Nearly 100 Premier facilities have installed McKesson Automation's products, which are based on a foundation of bar coding to ensure accuracy throughout the entire medication-use process.

McKesson, a Fortune 31 corporation, is the world's largest health care services company. McKesson Automation, a business unit of McKesson Corporation, is a leading provider of pharmacy and supply automation solutions that help hospitals re-engineer and improve their medication use and supply management processes.
