The "Industrial Robot" innovation award

The "Industrial Robot" innovation award

Keywords: Awards, Robotics

The Industrial Robot Journal, in collaboration with climbing and walking robots (CLAWAR), has announced an innovation award designed to stimulate, encourage and reward practical innovation in the field of robotics. While much innovative work is being done in the field of robotics, there is also duplication and repetition, with many researchers struggling to solve problems for which solutions are already available. "By launching this award, we are hoping to encourage more fresh thinking in the area of robotics research. In addition, we are looking for innovative research projects that have the potential for practical and useful application," comments Dr Clive Loughlin, Editor of the Industrial Robot Journal.

The award is open to the industrial and service sectors and to both academia and those working in industry. The prize includes an engraved hand-made glass bowl, an honorarium of Euro 400, and publication in the Industrial Robot Journal and on the CLAWAR web site. One year's free internet access to the Emerald Engineering portfolio (valued at over Euro 3000) is also included in the award.

The first "Industrial Robot" innovation award is to be presented at the CLAWAR annual conference in Catania, Italy, 17-19 September 2003. CLAWAR is a program that was established in 1997 as a thematic network, funded by the European Commission through its Growth program.
