The 25th Convention of the Asian Region Training and Development Organisation was held in a five-star-plus hotel in New Delhi, India in early November 1998. The theme of the conference was "Management: keeping the competitive edge" and speakers dealt with the social and economic problems of Asia, learning of individuals and organizations, development of management knowledge and many other issues relating to HRM and HRD ­ especially as they relate to the Asian "culture".

While most of the contributors came from India, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, a few of the speakers came from the UK, including Ben Fletcher of the University of Hertfordshire; Eric Frank, formerly with the University of Bath and now a visiting professor in south-east Asia; Alan Jones, University of Warwick; and Gillian Stamp of Brunel University.

The major papers presented have been published in Management: Keeping the Competitive Edge by Hindustan Publishing Corporation. Copies at US$25.00 are available from 4805/24 Baratram Road, Daryaganj, New Delhi 110 002, India.

The 26th ARTDO conference will be held in Bali, Indonesia from 14-17 September 1999 on "Building the dynamic HRD architecture in the Asia-Pacific region".
