BNA Communications Inc. (BNAC) has released three new video-based training programmes designed to help organizations comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) training requirements for employees involved in the processing, handling or storage of hazardous waste.

OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HazWOPER) requires employers to train employees who work with or around hazardous waste in safe waste-handling procedures, how to protect themselves from exposure and what to do in emergencies.

Complete with broadcast-quality videos, Trainer's Manuals and Participant Materials, BNAC's new HazWOPER training programmes include:

  • Spills: The First Responder's Duty every plant or facility involved in the processing, handling or storage of hazardous materials is required to have a planned and controlled approach to spill emergencies. This new training programme shows non-technical (awareness level) employees how to recognize, report and, where appropriate, confine in-plant hazardous material releases.

  • A Uniform for Safety: WearingPersonal Protective Equipment seemingly inocuous workplace situations can cause injuries to the lungs, the skin and unprotected body parts especially the hands, head and eyes. The programme covers all the essentials for personal protection, including chemical, mechanical and biological hazards. While delineating the four levels of protection as defined by OSHA, the programme's main emphasis is on levels C and D where the majority of reportable incidents are found. This training is a must for any employee required to wear personal protective equipment.

  • HazMat Awareness strict regulations from the US Department of Transportation (DOT HM181) govern many aspects of the shipping of hazardous waste and materials. Appropriate for both new employees and those needing to meet the two-year retraining requirement, this video provides training for anyone who has an effect on the movement of hazardous materials. It shows trainees: the necessary steps required in the shipping and receiving of hazardous materials; the various labelling and reporting documents, their contents and what needs to be included on them; how to use the HazMat table; and much more.

A subsidiary of The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc., BNA Communications Inc. has provided video-based training programmes to nine out of ten Fortune 500 companies and many other organizations in business, government and academia.
