"The key to achieving the maximum business efficiency essential to commercial success today is the expert management and development of the skills within the organization", said Jon Cook, launching Learning Tree International's Skills Tree, the comprehensive IT skills assessment and management tool.

SkillsTree covers over 100 of the most common IT job roles, with detailed definitions of more than 1,000 associated skills. Each employee's skills are compared with the optimum requirement set out in the system's competency model for that job. Skills-Tree then produces a full organizational skills inventory giving companies a systematic view of their strengths and weaknesses across all IT job functions from individual, departmental and enterprise-wide perspectives.

Personnel with unique skill combinations can be quickly identified, to help companies build better multi-skilled project teams to meet the most frequent requirements. SkillsTree can also unearth hidden skill resources, completely unrelated to an individual's main job function, which can remove the need to train someone else or buy in these skills.

To make the SkillsTree assessment, raw data is gathered from each employee, either on individual diskette or via the Website in an exercise taking between 30 and 45 minutes. All the information is then processed and analysed at Learning Tree by experts using special software and a series of detailed reports are produced within ten working days. If companies prefer, they can buy the software, customize it further if required, and integrate it into their own software.
