Rare distinction for Nigerian centre

Rare distinction for Nigerian centre

Keywords: Awards, Vocational training

Mobil-Producing in Nigeria has received the rarely awarded City & Guilds International Certificate of Excellence. On a recent visit to the centre, Keith Baker, market development and support manager, City & Guilds International, was greatly impressed by the standards of teaching, the provision of equipment and the enthusiasm of employees. He decided that the centre's achievements should be formally recognised.

Opened four years ago, the centre is a land-based factory developed to process, store and export crude oil extracted offshore and requires a highly trained workforce to operate and maintain the plant. Mobil has spared no expense in the provision of equipment at their training centre in Eket, and teachers and trainees undergo a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that the professional reputation of the company is upheld. The organization opted to use the City & Guilds Mechanical Technician Programme and is now on its third intake of apprentices. The company's exceptional commitment to vocational training, together with the resulting calibre of candidates' assessments, has been rewarded with this rare distinction.
