Special programme for unemployed graduates in Greece

Special programme for unemployed graduates in Greece

Keywords: Graduates, Work experience

Following a decree by the Greek labour minister, a special programme (STAGE) has been initiated to help unemployed graduates of universities and colleges who are seeking to enter the labour market for the first time and who are looking for work in their area of specialization to gain work experience. In this context, a system is also being created to implement, administer, observe, evaluate and monitor this programme.

The aim of the STAGE programme is to enable participants to acquire work experience and to adjust their vocational skills to changes in, and the requirements of, the labour market in their specialist area.

The programme lasts 11 months, of which one month is spent on theoretical and practical information and introduction to the work environment, and ten months on employment in a real enterprise in order to gain work experience.

On the employer side, all companies in the private and public commercial sector, legal entities in the private and public sectors, local public administrations and cooperatives may participate in the programme.

The public employment service (OAED) has been entrusted with implementing the programme.
