Hobsons plc, an international company with over 25 years' experience in providing information to students making career and course decisions, has acquired 100 per cent of the shares in MoveUp, Belgium's leading careers publisher.

Hobsons, part of the Daily Mail and General Trust plc, is experiencing a sustained period of rapid growth. A global information provider, it reaches over two million students worldwide. The company's 200 titles are distributed in over 160 countries.

Complementing its print offerings, Hobsons also has a strong and growing Web presence.

Frances Halliwell, Managing Director, Hobsons Europe, said:

In terms of access to students, no other company can match Hobsons' global reach. Now our aim is to consolidate and build on our market leadership to become the worldwide recruitment and education solution.

We are pursuing an aggressive global growth strategy, combining organic growth and acquisitions. When we were looking for a suitable acquisition in Europe, MoveUp met all the strategic and operational criteria.

MoveUp's range of products and services makes a strong fit with our existing portfolio of information for students as they move through their education and early career paths.

Those services, aimed at students in the process of job-hunting, range from assessment of CVs and cover letters to publishing. MoveUp publishes The Move Up Directory, Belgium's leading career directory, Search (the directory of recruitment consultants and headhunters) and a 20-book series "Move Up Practical Tips". It also brings to Hobsons its Web site, www.moveup.be/

So what is the net result for Hobsons of its latest acquisition? Frances Halliwell’says:

The education sector is a dynamic market. Students and their advisers are hungry for high quality information about the choices open to them, not just in terms of education but career options too.

Our aim is to fully meet their needs and to provide a committed and knowledgeable audience for recruiters targeting students all the way from school-leavers to postgraduates and mature students. MoveUp's position at the heart of Europe offers us an ideal platform on which to build Hobson's growing presence in Europe.

Hobsons has UK offices in London and Cambridge. Worldwide, the company maintains offices in the USA, Australia, Argentina, Southeast Asia, Germany, Poland and Hungary. For further information, visit www.hobsons.com
