Pathlore launches ASP solution for Internet-speed e-learning

The e-learning management system provider, Pathlore, has launched the Pathlore ASP Solution.

An application service provider (ASP) solution lets companies use enterprise applications while avoiding the up-front hiring, software and hardware investments and ongoing management costs of hosting their own technology. Customers can connect to the Pathlore ASP Solution via the Internet or their wide area network, then deliver and manage e-learning through their Web browsers.

As an application service provider (ASP), Pathlore hosts, implements, manages and maintains all the e-learning infrastructure that customers need. They simply plug in the courses they want to offer their employees, customers and partners. Or they can turn to Pathlore for help in developing them. With the Pathlore ASP Solution, customers can administer, manage and deliver Web-based and live online collaborative events as well as traditional classes.

With Pathlore's ASP Solution, customers can "go live" with an e-learning program in a matter of days and bring the technology into their companies later if it suits them. By offloading the infrastructure investment and management to Pathlore, they can also focus more strongly on content and strategy.

Pathlore is one of the first e-learning companies to offer an ASP solution. Others are expected to follow. In fact, spending on ASP services in general is expected to soar by nearly $8bn by 2004, up from $296m in 1999, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).

"The e-learning market is ripe for emerging ASP solutions", said Cushing Anderson, an analyst with IDC. "E-learning is especially appealing to companies today because of the convenience and flexibility it offers, but companies want to avoid substantial technology and human resource investments typical of a move towards e-learning. Pathlore's ability to deliver an ASP e-learning solution quickly and efficiently should be of great interest to enterprises of all sizes."

"In the Internet age, the more quickly and efficiently a company can provide learning opportunities to its employees, customers and partners, the better", said Bruce Duff, Pathlore's chief operating officer. "With the Pathlore ASP Solution, limited time, resources and IT professionals won't be able to hold a company back."
