Training firm makes inroads in eastern Europe

A small UK company is making inroads in the training market in eastern Europe, which can be a mine-field for the uninitiated.

Ascot Systems has sold 24 of its CourseMaster systems and one of its newer products, Observer, in the Czech and Slovak republics, and expects to sell eight more CourseMasters in the Ukraine in the next few months.

The company believes that a large part of its success is working closely with a Czech agency, VM Systems. "It is vital to have an agent who is steeped in the cultural and business traditions of your target market," said Phil North, Ascot managing director.

Customers have included Czech Railways and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, as well as a power-supply plant and a number of information-technology companies.
