Denmark reforms social and health-care training
Denmark has reformed its social and health-care training programmes, to make them more attractive to young people.
A flexible basic course gives access to both the social and health-care assistant training programmes, and to the programme for people wishing to work in nurseries and youth centres. Most people complete the basic course in 20 weeks, but this can be extended to up to 40 weeks, if necessary.
Another important aspect of the reform is an increased focus on general and personal skills. Classroom-based programmes are the main way of achieving this.
The reform also improves trainees' access to higher education. Successful candidates no longer have to pass an entrance examination to take a social or health-care programme at university.
