Technical teachers go on company placements

Company placements have been organized for more than 200 teachers of technical and secondary vocational education in the Belgian region of Wallonia.

Participating companies supervise the teachers throughout the placement, which is not production-orientated and therefore not remunerated. Candidates are paid a government allowance of e18.59 a day to take part in the training, which they agree to attend in the school holidays. Placements can last from between a few days to a maximum of two weeks.

The scheme has been organized by the Walloon Business Federation, with the support of the education ministry. It is designed to improve the match between what the teachers teach and the skills industry needs. The teachers also learn how to operate the most modern equipment that is often lacking in schools, and to keep abreast of changes in work organization and social conditions.
