Monica Brophy is Marketing Executive for the Tourism Research Centre. She has a first class honours Masters in Marketing from the Michael Smurfit School. She recently completed a publicly funded project by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment for the hotel industry entitled Hotel Management Skillnet. This research-based project developed a competency-based model for middle managers in the three star hotel sector. Three competency-based tools were subsequently developed to assist implementation. An application has been made to extend funding for this project until the end of 2004.
Tony Kiely graduated in 1997 with a first class honours degree in Business Management and is currently pursuing a Masters. Tony has recently been involved in the modularisation of college programmes to bring Dublin Institute of Technology into line with best international practice. In addition to his research interests in core competencies, he is currently carrying out research into the benefits of customer relationship management to small and medium sized hotels. Tony is also a member of The British Psychological Society.
