More than half of German firms shun e-learning

More than half of German firms shun e-learning

More than half of German companies do not use electronic learning and have no plans to introduce it in future, according to a study by the German Federal Institute for VocationalTraining.

High costs, data-protection concerns, possible misuse and lack of appropriate software are amongthe reasons that businesses shun e-learning in Germany. Personnel managers and trainers do not feel adequately prepared to introduce this form of learning. Some three-quarters of them would welcome help in practical planning and decision making.

Among the German firms that have introduced e-learning, it accounts for more than half of all the training that takes place. These firms tend to offera wide range of e-learning opportunities, from learning modules and simulations, through access to information systems and databases, to networked intranet or Internet-based learning.
