Article Type: Editorial From: Journal of European Real Estate Research, Volume 2, Issue 1

The European Real Estate Society (ERES), since its inception in 1993, has established a pan-European focus and through various activities notably the annual conference, industry seminars and educational seminars is recognised as the leading European provider for research, scholarship, debate and discussion on all matters pertaining to real estate. In 2008, ERES was delighted to launch the Journal of European Real Estate Research in conjunction with Emerald. Sincere thanks are expressed to all who established the journal and guided it successfully through the first year of publication. For the second volume of the journal, the editorial arrangements have been expanded to reflect the wide and diverse spectrum covered by European real estate research.

The new editorial arrangements bring together the strengths of an editorial executive supported by the initial editorial advisory board (2007-2010). Members of the editorial executive are Martin Hoesli, University of Geneva and University of Aberdeen, who will have particular responsibilities for all papers within the real estate finance arena; Paloma Taltavull, University of Alicante with specific expertise in housing, econometric modelling and education; Jim Berry, University of Ulster, who will be handling papers concerning planning, development and urban regeneration; Eamonn D’Arcy, University of Reading, who will have editorial responsibility for real estate economics and the Education and Market Viewpoint sections of the journal; and myself, Stanley McGreal, as the managing editor. In the first instance all papers should be submitted through the managing editor. The editorial advisory board is of wider composition with members appointed for a rotating three-year period. We are greatly appreciative of the role of members of the editorial advisory board in their reviewing of submitted papers.

The journal seeks to publish high-quality research output, encourage research into real estate education and practice, and provide a vehicle for private sector research into real estate. In this respect there are sections of the journal devoted, respectively, to education papers reflecting the growing research into scholarship and pedagogy and a market viewpoint reflecting current issues impacting on real estate. A key characteristic of the journal is the need for all papers to have particular relevance for European real estate research though this does not exclude comparative papers or those papers reflecting generic issues of relevance to real estate research. I look forward to receiving papers from the real estate research community and engaging with the readership of the journal.
