From 23rd to 26th of June 2010 Milano hosted the 17th Annual ERES Conference for the second time in the decade (the 11th ERES Conference was held there in 2004). Organized by SDA Bocconi School of Management in the Bocconi University campus in the heart of Milan, the conference has registered the participation of 441 delegates (from all over Europe, but also from the USA, Asia and Australia/New Zealand), with 340 papers presented, including 54 PhD student papers.

With a total of almost 600 participants including accompanying persons and participants for the Industry Seminars day, ERES 2010 Milano has therefore seen an impressive participation both in the number of attendees and papers presented, thanks to the notoriety reached by ERES and to a rich scientific program, making this event one of the most prominent of the last years either for ERES or any other real estate institutional meeting.

Most of real estate topics were covered in the workshop sessions, the most relevant being on Housing Economics, Investment, Market Research Analysis and Forecasting, Valuation and Finance.

With respect to the previous editions, symposiums and industry seminars were introduced: the idea was to merge the real estate industry players and academics even more than before. Moreover, following some suggestions from the Italian Scientific Committee, some seminars covered topics currently of great interest both for the academic community and for the industry community, such as project finance, Italian market, communication and debt in real estate.

The Opening Ceremony, held in the Aula Magna of the new Bocconi Grafton Building, has seen the participation of very well-known key-note speakers: Thomas Beyerle (Head of Global Research, Aberdeen Property Investors), Robin Goodchild (International Director and Head of European Strategy, LaSalle Investment Management) and Aldo Mazzocco, CEO of Beni Stabili, one of the most important Italian property companies.

The social events have been very well appreciated. On the Wednesday night the delegates were received in the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino, the headquarter of the Municipality of Milan, by Letizia Moratti (Mayor of Milan) which, contravening to the protocol, has given a quick welcoming speech in English. On Thursday night, during the Gala Dinner, a special mention was given to Paola G. Lunghini, awarded with the “Achievement Award” thanks to the commitment she has dedicated to “the development of the Italian real estate community and the integration with the main international real estate networks”. Lastly, on Friday night, in honour of ERES, a rugby tournament among some university teams and the local rugby team, was organized in the historical venue of the Civic Arena: CUS Milano Rugby won the “ERES 2010 Milano Cup”.

On the web site: www.eres2010.org it is possible to find the complete program of the conference and the book of abstract, to download most of the papers that were presented and to have a look at the pictures of the main events. The next edition of the ERES Conference will be held in Eindhoven (please visit: www.eres2011.com): I wish to see you there!
