The well regarded and long established Center for Children’s Books has performed, yet again, another valuable service for the LIS profession in bringing out these reviews of stories appropriate for children and thus helping the hard pressed childrens’ librarians of this world with some sound targeted professional advice. With reviews of 155 audiotapes and seven videotapes this slender volume will prove of use to many librarians working in the fields of storytelling, extension activities and children’s and school libraries – even taking into account the strong US bias.

There are good clear and short reviews with indications of the school level (in grades) appropriate for the story and with good bibliographical citations to help make purchasing that little bit easier. The subject index could have been extended to cover more categories, however. Given the relentless march of technology, I suppose the next issue will have to cover DVDs and CD‐ROMs – and maybe suitable Internet sites also.
