This is the final issue of the journal to be completed under my editorship. I have been privileged to serve as editor for the past 18 years. I leave the post with mixed emotions. The editorship has become a normal, routine part of my life and I will miss that. The journal has grown in size, stature, and audience leading to a great deal more work, and I will be relieved of that. What I will miss most is the people with whom I have worked over these many years.

I have had several publishers from Emerald, beginning with Sue de Verteuil and most recently, Stephanie Hull. They have always been helpful and supportive and I wish them continued success. I have been fortunate to have had the help of 14 different assistant editors over the years. Each was, at the time of their service, a student in the doctoral program at the University of Cincinnati. I want to thank them all: Dr Lisa Bostaph, Dr Robert Brown, Mr Colin Bolger, Dr Christine Famega, Dr Jennifer Hartman, Mr Daniel Lytle, Dr Dai Mengyan, Dr Denise Nation, Dr Kenneth Novak, Ms Angela Reitler, Mr Carlos Rojas, Dr Bradley Smith, Mr Eric Straeter, and Ms Jennifer Webster. I am proud to note that three of these former editorial assistants are co-authors of articles appearing in this issue of the journal.

The new editors, Drs Lorie Fridell and Kimberly Lersch are committed to continuing the quest for quality with the journal. They bring expertise and a fresh perspective. I expect they will improve and strengthen the journal and I hope they have as productive a term as I have enjoyed.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with the journal over the years, including the hundreds of submitting authors and manuscript reviewers. It really is the work of those folks that makes a journal succeed or fail. I encourage everyone to continue to contribute to Policing, and to be as generous to Lorie and Kim as you have been to me. Thank you for a wonderful term.
