University of British Columbia selects Voyager and ENCompass

Endeavor Information Systems has announced that the University of British Columbia (UBC) Library, in Vancouver, Canada, has selected the Voyager integrated library management system and the ENCompass system for managing, searching and linking digital collections including the ENCompass Course Content Integrator for e-learning integration. At UBC, Voyager will manage over 3.1 million volumes. Voyager replaces the DRA Classic system, which was implemented by the Library in 1996. The second largest academic research library in Canada and a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), UBC is the 33rd ARL member to choose the Voyager system and the ninth ARL to select ENCompass. After a competitive process, the Voyager system was selected, as it most closely met the UBC Library's core requirements. The UBC Library supports 39,000 students and 12,000 faculty through ten on-campus and four off-campus library locations.

University of Hertfordshire selects Endeavor digital solutions

Endeavor Information Systems and the University of Hertfordshire in the UK have announced the selection of both ENCompass for Resource Access system for providing instant access to e-resources and expanded search capabilities and the LinkFinderPlus OpenURL-enabled link resolver. ENCompass will provide resource management and discovery options to accompany the University's 1999 purchase of the Voyager integrated library management system. Endeavor's leading digital systems are being integrated with StudyNet, the University's managed learning environment. Already established as a campus service that encourages patron empowerment in Voyager, the University of Hertfordshire Learning and Information Services (LIS) looked for a solution to accommodate anticipated growth in the volume of digital collections. Serving a university of 20,000 students, the Learning Resource Centres at the University of Hertfordshire provide 24 7 access to comprehensive and integrated bookstock, 4,400 print journals and 9,200 electronic journals, as well as digitised past examination papers, information databases, and Web sites. StudyNet delivers course-specific information and resources to students through individual personal portals from some 4,000 individual Web sites.

Endeavor delivers course management system integration

Endeavor Information Systems has announced a new application, the Course Content Integrator, to complement the ENCompass digital library system for managing, searching and linking collections. Endeavor's Course Content Integrator is available for use with the Blackboard Learning System 6.0 Enterprise Edition and the WebCT Vista System. With this product, Endeavor enables course creators to integrate easily the libraries' quality resources into their institution's chosen course management system. Libraries benefit from increased use of their investment in electronic database content and with increased recognition for the role the library plays in the daily education of the student.

Endeavor supports Unicode standard in Voyager, ENCompass

Endeavor Information Systems has confirmed pre-release testing for the application of the Unicode Standard in managing, searching and linking collections. An Associate Member of the Unicode Consortium (http://unicode.org), Endeavor first introduced Unicode capabilities in the 2000.1 release of its Voyager system with on-the-fly conversion of data in the MARC 880 field to the Unicode character set for display in WebVoyage by gathering a task force of Voyager libraries with extensive knowledge and experience in multilingual collections.

The new release of Voyager allows libraries to convert bibliographic, holdings and authority records in Voyager to the Unicode UTF-8 standard and provides increased support for the input, display and searching of multilingual records.
