The content of this book is based on papers from the electronic journal Information Research, started in 1995. The preface states that the “hit counters” on the papers in the journal provided the criteria for selecting the “most used” articles. Authors were then asked to revise or re-write their contributions, which collectively now form this work. This reader is aimed at students on “various information-related programmes” as well as researchers. The authors and co-authors of the 15 chapters come from the USA, the UK, Canada, Sweden, Portugal, Singapore, Finland, Australia, and Lithuania. The work contains a 27-page bibliography with references ranging from the 1960s to the present day.
