Rilsan coating powders for fire hydrant

Roban Ductile Welding Ltd of Leicester have chosen Elf Atochem's Rilsan T blue polyamide 11 powder to coat all of the castings on the new Roban Type 2 Lightweight Fire Hydrant. Roban currently hold the Yorkshire Water supply contract for the product and relaunched their new design at IWEX '97. Rilsan high-performance coating powders are known throughout the water industry worldwide for their corrosion protection of pipes, couplings, fittings and other hardware.

Manufactured in ductile iron, the Roban Type 2 is a fixed stopper fire hydrant and conforms fully to BS750. Rilsan is applied to the hydrant by dip coating in a fluidised bed. Its high molecular weight ensures exceptional resistance to impact and abrasion, thereby providing protection of the hydrant during connection and disconnection. Rilsan claims a proven long-term durability, reportedly outperforming other coating materials during connection tests.

In addition, Rilsan is based on a renewable, non-toxic vegetable source and according to Elf Atochem can be used in contact with potable water. It is approved to major water industry standards, both in the UK (WRc, BS/WIS, DWI) and worldwide.
