New Physica rheometer gives more flexibility

New Physica rheometer gives more flexibility

PAAR Scientific has introduced a new generation rheometer which, according to its manufacturer, is one of the most powerful currently available, and a departure from conventional rheometers.

The PAAR Physica UDS 200 Universal Dynamic Spectrometer is a modular rotational, creep and oscillatory rheometer for the investigation of viscous and visco-elastic material properties such as complex dynamic viscosity and the loss modules G´ and G› of a wide variety of fluids and solid materials (see Plate 4).

The UDS has an air bearing measuring drive system (permanent magnet synchr nous AC motor drive) with automatic gap setting and control, and integrated normal force sensor.

An air bearing provides both axial and radial location for the UDS drive system. This configuration has many advantages over conventional rheometer designs that utilise mechanical bearing motor drives and air bearing torque transducers, including more accurate measurements, and less chance of damage to the bearing.

The special motor configuration offers more flexibility in choosing a wide variety of test modules. Rotational speeds are stated to be from 10-5 to 3,000rpm and frequencies from 10-4 to100 Hz.

UDS 200 can use all existing PAAR Physica thermal chambers and measuring systems including electrical heating (TEZ 400, TEK 350), forced gas heating (TEK 600), Peltier heating (TEK 130P) and circulating fluid heating (TEZ 180 and TEK 180).

A wide variety of measuring systems for cones, plates, cups, bobs, torsion are available for use with thermal chambers.

Used with the Physica Universal Software US 200, the UDS 200 is easy to use. US 200 software operates in a MS-Windows environment, benefiting, the user in multitasking, measuring and post-processing the measuring data or working in parallel with other windows.
