Autovisc for accurate and repeatable flow cup measurements

Accurate and repeatable measurements of the viscosity of coating formulations by using flow cups are easier and more reliable with the new Autovisc, which has just been introduced (October 1997) by Sheen Instruments Limited, Kingston-upon-Thames, UK (see Plate 10).

The instrument eliminates variations in flow cup measurements by maintaining the sample formulation at a precise temperature during the test and automatically determining the start and end points of the measurement, thus eliminating operator dependent variables.

Operation is very simple. Once the flow cup is filled and placed in the temperature controlled jacket, the instrument is switched on. The timing function is reset and the display set to zero. Timing starts immediately and ceases when a break in the flow occurs. The LCD displays the elapsed time in one second increments.

Autovisc accommodates most types of flow cups available from Sheen Instruments and other manufacturers worldwide. It can be powered from the mains or a rechargeable battery pack.
