Biomarine is an anti-fouling product which protects both the hulls and the environment. Developed by the Laboratoire International Maritime (a member of the Monopol Paints Group), Biomarine reportedly contains no heavy metals, toxic products or silicon. Its specific formula is based on special acrylic resins. Through a sophisticated production process they are transformed into a self-polishing polymer with exceptional anti-static properties.

As a result, we are informed, Biomarine does not act like conventional products: it repels micro-organisms without killing or intoxicating them thus keeping ships' hulls clean while protecting aquatic fauna and flora.

Biomarine can be applied to all types of surface: steel (including galvanised), cast iron, aluminium, polyester, wood and concrete. It lasts between two and three times longer than existing products and has a 0.75 hard matrix. Biomarine can be used by merchant vessels, yachts and warships. The product is available in blue, red, black, green and off-white, as well as in a fluorescent version for safety purposes.

An international patent has been filed on Biomarine on behalf of the French State under the international patent number DGA/DCN 9500872. The Laboratoire International Maritime has an exclusive operating licence (for production and marketing). Monopol is currently seeking importers or distributors.

In addition to Biomarine anti-fouling, the Laboratoire International Marine offers a full range of more than 70 marine products for professional use. They include surface treatment products as well as primers, epoxy coatings, aerospace quality lacquers, varnishes, anti-collision paints and NATO-approved non-skid coatings.
