European wireworkers report profits boost from switch to NG30 LDPE coating

Keywords Coatings, Plascoat

According to Plascoat wireworkers across Europe are reporting energy savings of up to 25 per cent and as much as a 50 per cent reduction in material use just a year after the introduction of its New Generation polyethylene coating NG30 by Plascoat.

Reduced dust levels are also said to be among the "green" credentials of the standard white NG30 LDPE that are helping to establish the material as a pan-European appliance industry standard.

The new low density formulation claims free flowing properties that allow good edge coverage and a pinhole free finish with minimal overall coating thickness, applied at a considerably lower and less critical coating temperature.

NG30 has been developed for a wide range of domestic wirework equipment applications and is available in colour options where larger quantities are required, as well as non-yellowing white.

The new polyethylene coating powder joins an NG range that also includes the NG10 and NG20 coatings, giving applicators the opportunity to select specific qualities, such as an enhanced level of abrasion, stress cracking and impact resistance, and a finish appropriate to the product and budget.

We are also informed that a top North African refrigerator manufacturer has joined a host of European white goods producers in switching to a specialist Plascoat coating material for its shelving and basket wirework.

The North African company is being supplied with NG10 low density polyethylene (LDPE) by the European thermoplastics coatings leader, which serves the region from its Southern European base at Lyon, France.

Around 200,000 refrigerators a year will feature the new wirework coating the manufacturer making the switch to NG10 after experiencing yellowing problems with its previous coating material.

The Plascoat NG10 coating is one of a range of New Generation LDPEs that sets new market standards in terms of flow, resistance to impact and stress cracking, and nonyellowing. NG10 also provides a higher gloss finish.

The high flow properties of NG10 helps manufacturers avoid the problems associated with the coverage of awkward corners, while being able to keep the pin-hole free coating thickness to a minimum.
