Rapid drying times in shelf heated vacuum drying ovens for flammable solvents

Keywords Drying, Heraeus, Ovens, Solvents

If a user wants to dry solvents, safely and at the same time particularly rapidly, he has Heraeus Instruments vacutherm 6000 shelf heated vacuum drying ovens at his disposal. The VT 6000 P-BL models are reportedly designed for items containing solvents, whose vapours can form flammable and explosive mixtures when exposed to air (Plate 6). The amount of solvent is said to be unlimited.

The benefit claimed of this model is that the shelves act as heating elements: their special construction ensures that they are rapidly and evenly heated and that they transfer their heat directly to the sample dish. Every shelf is fitted with its own temperature sensor. Depending on the heat requirement of the load to be dried, the temperature is kept at a constant value.

Heraeus informs us that the vacuum drying ovens are equipped with forced inertisation which, in case of an inadvertent increase in pressure, prevents the formation of explosive mixtures. The more compact model, the VT 6060 P-BL, has a total volume of 53 litres and the larger version, the VT 6130 P-BL, with 128 litres, offers more than twice the space. They attain a rated temperature of 300 or 400°C.
